My wife and I have a 150L aquarium. We do 20%-40% water change weekly and a full change monthly. We have very little alge problems, well the stores tell us here there little. We HAD 2 male betas, 4 female betas, 5 angles, 1 dalmation molly, 9 neons, 1 discus, 1 coral platy, 5 guppys all living happily together. Recently we have had a couple of deaths. 10 days ago; The older male beta would not eat for 5 days, laying on the bottom then his scales stuck out at 90°, he did eat again however, removed him to seperate tank and he has now left us. The other male and one female started to lie on the bottom and hide too. Both gone within 2 days. 2 days ago; We noticed what looked like a bone sticking out of a guppy. Further inspection let to the discovery of many fish with these spikes. All the guppys, the platy, and one female beta had one each. Yesterday the number of spikes was increased and the molly got one. We have an inside filter of 2000L/h. 1 Daylight and 1 blacklight bulbs. Temperature is at 28°C not gravel heated. Water is chaulky here but the fish have been fine for 2 months. Before they where in 2 seperate 54L tanks. My wife has read many books looking for these illnesses but can not find anthing specific to these symptoms. Please help. Oh, Live plants thriving. 1kg lavastone, 4kg petrifid tree. Somekind of black gravel. 2cm square airstone.
